Questions we get asked
What does a forward deployed engineer actually do?
Mostly listening, some plumbing, very little modelling. The engineer embeds with your team, learns the operation from the inside, and builds against what is genuinely in the way rather than against a brief written by someone who was not there.
How is this different from hiring a contractor?
A contractor delivers a specification. A forward deployed engineer is there to find out that the specification was wrong, which is a service of its own rather than a delivery style, and is why MarsLab sells it as one.
Who owns the systems they build?
You do, along with the cloud account and the models. The engineer's job includes making sure the system survives their departure, which means your team can run and change it without them.
How long does an engineer stay embedded?
Long enough to get to production, which on the standard engagement is 8 weeks from strategy. Adoption across the organisation is part of the job, not a handover note at the end of it.
